Improve your Job Searching Attitude

If you have been on a career search for some time and still do not have any prospects, you may find yourself wondering about the source of the problem. This is a common problem among many college graduates looking for a job today. They have an impeccable resume, fabulous credentials and the right look for the job and yet they still have not been able to nail the ideal job. What is at the root of the problem?

One of the most common problems seems to stem from having the wrong attitude regarding your job search. The first step that should be undertaken is to make sure that you are viewing your job search as an actual job itself. It has often been said that when you do not have a job, looking for a job should be your full-time job. If you do not have an attitude regarding your job search that is passionate and committed, then you may find yourself looking for a job much longer than you would like. In many ways, looking for a job is a type of numbers game. The more resumes you send out and the more interviews you get, the better chance you will have of being called back and actually landing the job you want much faster.

You also need to make sure that you have defined a system of finding a job. This means that you need to have defined your goals regarding your job search as well as have a tracking system for the resumes you have sent out, the interviews you have received and when you need to follow-up on leads.

In addition, you need to be realistic about the market that is best for your skills. It is not uncommon for many college graduates to over-inflate how easy it will be for them to find a job once they have graduated. This will typically lead to disappointment and frustration once you actually get started with your job search. Begin by having a realistic idea in order to avoid this type of frustration later. Visit your college’s career center to get a firm idea of what the market for your skills is currently like.

Also, make sure that you are not overlooking opportunities. Sometimes job seekers tend to focus on the larger companies and organizations, believing that will give them the best opportunity for landing a job. This is not necessarily the case. More than 95% of all businesses employ fewer than 100 people. The largest number of jobs is actually offered by small businesses. Make sure you are not overlooking these golden opportunities during your career search in order to reap the best benefits.
