Begin by taking your role as an intern seriously. You need to treat it as if it were a real job because in many ways it is. Work hard and pay attention. Even if you are not getting paid for the internship in terms of dollars, you will be getting paid in terms of experience and connections and that is invaluable to your career search.
Do not be afraid to take advantage of opportunities when they arise. If opportunities do not arise, do everything that you can to make them happen.
