A Scholarship Search for an Environmental Student

We all are well aware of the fragile state of the environment, and now more than ever there is a huge need for environmental scientists, engineers studying alternative fuels and energy sources and many other scientific and environmental experts.

There are many opportunities for scholarship funds available to these students, and it is quite easy for them to perform a rewarding and successful scholarship search. A student does not have to be majoring in environmental studies however to win scholarships, prizes and financial support for their college work. Some awards are granted simply by demonstrating environmental activism or interest.

Demonstrating awareness of environmental issues and participating in activities to educate others is something that wins thousands of students financial support each year. This is because so many groups are currently making funds available to those who can demonstrate their Earth friendly attitudes and efforts. Students usually submit a sort of resume with a scholarship application, and those who have documented proof of their efforts tend to win the funds.

For example, a student who starts or works on a school or community recycling program, or one who has membership in a national organization dedicated to preserving the environment of forwarding “green” living will have stronger chances for scholarship success.

When doing a scholarship search for these environmentally supportive agencies it is best to take membership, activities, interest and key words into consideration. Many scholarships come in the form of prizes from competitions, so using words like “green scholarships” may yield some unique results and opportunities. For example, there are “green” opportunities from Annie’s Homegrown line of food products, from the Mazda auto manufacturing company, and a “talent search” from the Intel Company.

A student could also start with the groups that they have an active membership or participation in. For example, a student can look to their local land trust, gardening club or historical preservation society to see if they make any scholarship funds to students with a “green” mindset.

The student can also look on the larger scale by contacting the national and international agencies that they support or have membership with. For example, a student could check with the solar energy society or association where they have an active membership to see if the group provides scholarships or if they can give a recommendation to the student in their quest for a scholarship.

There are also opportunities in a scholarship search for students looking to study fields related to environmental science, such as environmental law. Many programs are available for students interested in such a specific field of study, and one of the most popular scholarships for them is through the Environmental Law Institute.

With a little creativity and persistence a student can find dozens of financial resources to pursue their chosen field of study. Many can gain some support through their commitment to improving the condition of the Earth, leaving a smaller “carbon footprint” and working towards alternative energies and resource management.
